Apple must be pretty happy with how 2019 went, because the company revealed some data today regarding its services for the past year.  Customers spent $1.42 billion on the App Store between Christmas and New Year’s Eve alone. New Year’s Day (of 2020) set a new single-day record, with people spending $386 million. In total, the App Store has earned more than $155 billion since its launch in 2008. Games account for no small part of the App Store’s success. Earlier this year we introduced the upcoming IP Corner Wolves by new developer Brass Lion – a studio started by vets who’ve worked on the Mass Effect, Sleeping Dogs, and Fallout franchises.  Corner Wolves tells the story of Jacinte, a young afro-latina living in mid-’90s Harlem who is caught up in events after she finds her father murdered. The game positions this mystery against the larger backdrop of the times: the government’s self-proclaimed war on drugs which had its own negative effects on the communities it tried to help. Insomniac’s Spider-Man game gave Marvel’s famed wall crawler a new look through the white-spidered Advanced Suit, which has become quite popular with collectors and fans. Cortes Studios has created a statue based on this design, as well as another based on a different costume from the game. Not many of us ever open up our new consoles, but if you do take apart Microsoft’s Xbox Series X later this year, you’ll discover that the processor powering the machine is engraved with “8K.” Earlier today, Microsoft’s head of Xbox Phil Spencer changed his twitter profile picture to an image of the new Xbox’s chipset, which is based on AMD’s Zen 2 architecture. In 2020, Nintendo is releasing new content for ScreamPark and ScareScraper multiplayer modes through two separate DLC installments. The DLC costs $9.99, with Part 1 releasing on April 30. It includes three ScreamPark minigames, six new themed ghosts, three outfits for Luigi, and three floor themes for ScareScraper co-op.
